John Resko è un assassino e come tale è condannato alla sedia elettrica. All'ultimo memento giunge la grazia che gli commuta la pena nel carcere a vita. L'abbandono della moglie e la morte del padre sconvolgono la sua mente, ma, dopo un periodo di inasprimento, la sua reazione cambia ed egli si mette a dipingere rivelando un notevole talento. Il Governatore prende a cuore il suo caso e a John Resko viene restituita la libertà.
