Medio Oriente, fine anni '40. Sullo sfondo del nascente stato israeliano, Thomas Wilkin e Geoffrey Morton, due agenti della polizia britannica di stanza in Palestina, sono chiamati ad investigare su Avraham Stern, poeta e capo carismatico dell'ala oltranzista della sinistra in Israele.
