Il film narra le gesta di Douglas Bader, abile aviatore della RAF, che nonostante la perdita di entrambe le gambe in un incidente aereo, rifiuta di servire l'esercito dietro una scrivania e riesce a tornare a volare e a compiere azioni eroiche durante la II Guerra Mondiale.
