Il filmaker Alex vive in un furgone e con la sua videocamera riprende le zone rurali degli Stati Uniti, terre di nessuno nei pressi delle autostrade. Durante una visita a sua madre, una ex alcolista, Alex viene a conoscenza di un segreto a lungo ben custodito che lo trasporterà negli oscuri meandri del suo passato.
